A marijuana-based drug could be tested on epileptic children at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in the first ever trial of its kind.
Researchers at the Sick Kids and Edinburgh University are seeking approval to use oil extracted from cannabis flowers on children with the most severe cases of epilepsy, including babies.
A trial is already under way in New York, with parents reporting a dramatic improvement in symptoms. The oil contains less than one per cent of the cannabis component THC, which causes the “high”.
